He's a companion, he can fight and is very quick. He can't speak back, but he understands others who speak to him. He stays with Yuri and adventured with him back in our world.

It sounds like to me that we all have that in common. A companion that may not be considered "man," but is a valued partner who is missed when they are not present.

He is what we call a Chocobo. They are used as mounts, of course. They pull wagons and are ridden into battle as well. Some are domesticated and others run wild.
